This photo accompanied a blog column that I published on New Year's Eve. It was the day I cleared the bathroom and started priming the walls. The bathroom was not a room that we had planned on painting, however, despite decorating our bathroom and replacing the sliding glass shower door with a decorative shower curtain, the pale gray still made it look industrial.
The vanity and large wall mirror medicine cabinet are older. Down the road, we have plans on updating our toilet, vanity, and bathtub/shower. Until then, we wanted to make a few cosmetic updates. That included the vanity and, at first, the clunky medicine cabinet.
We primed and painted the walls with a gorgeous shade of deep English Channel blue. We were going to leave the trim in its original shade of pale gray, but it didn't match up after we did the walls.
The next decision we had to make was the trim and baseboard color. We held up a few swatches against the walls and went with a dark gray.
A couple of weekends ago, Lisa grabbed the paint and a brush and started with the top trim. Midway through, we both finally admitted that we did not like the dark gray.
Not. At. All.
I'll be the first to admit, at that point, we were frustrated.
Very. Very. Frustrated.
This was our last room to paint and we just wanted to get it done.
After a day or so of deliberation, we decided that the shade of paint we chose for the vanity would be perfect for the trim.
Silver Feather
In addition to painting the trim and vanity in Silver Feather, I also painted a few wall pieces the same color to contrast with the darker walls.
We absolutely love our bathroom now! At the end of the day, we gave each other a high five. The past few months of painting and makeovers have been a lot of work, complete with lots of F-Bombs, but it was worth every minute.
Happy Dance!
