Snow. Sleet. Freezing Rain. Rain. And, A Little Sweet Gratitude.

Today was another weird weather day. Snow. Sleet. Freezing rain. Rain. All in that order. It was a mess. I had no idea what time Lisa would be arriving home from work. The weather report mentioned a possible drop in temperature. I feared the driveway, walkway, and lawn would turn into an ice skating rink. I gave myself an hour to continue working on the deadline I was plugging away at. Then, I'd head outside to shovel several inches of slush in the pouring rain.

About 30 minutes later, I heard someone shoveling. The sound of the shovel hitting pavement was close. I tried to ignore the sound so I could focus on work stuff.

No such luck.

I made my way to the kitchen and peeked out the window. There she was. Our neighbor friend, Char. She had shoveled the few inches of slush that had coated the driveway and was crossing the street back to her house.

Char's husband, Bob, is the one who cleared the snow from our driveway over a week ago with his snow blower when Mother Nature had dumped 6 inches of snow instead of the predicted "dusting." I made him chocolate chip cookies to extend our gratitude.

I finished up one of my work deadlines and baked a batch of homemade double chocolate, salted caramel cupcakes with my fresh made caramel buttercream frosting. And, heart-shaped sprinkles.

I delivered the cupcakes. Char's face lit up.

Then, I attempted to keep the driveway and walkway cleared and to scoop the water from our flooding yard. Three times. By the time Lisa got out of work, it was pouring out. There was nothing else I could do.

We were lucky. The temperature didn't drop.

And, thanks to Char, life was a little easier for the both of us.

We are truly grateful for Char and Bob and their random acts of kindness are always rewarded with sweet treats.
