Your Furry Kids Will Gobble Up These Homemade Meatball Dog Treats

Back in March, I published a blog column about our homemade meatball dog treats. After reading through that column, I realized that I didn't include the recipe. Gah! Yeah. I know. Total dork moment.

Our kids love these particular treats. So do we. They freeze very well. I make 4 batches several times a month. We alternate the extras that we add to the dough base. Some weeks I add grated carrots and mashed banana. Other weeks I throw in grated apple and cooked ground chicken breasts.

The recipe for the dough base is...

1 Cup Peanut Butter

3 Eggs

4 Cups Flour

2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

3/4 - 1 1/4 Cups Warm Water

Add peanut butter, eggs, flour, and baking powder to your mixing bowl.

Don't mix quite yet...

This is when you want to add your mix-ins.

You can add multiple mix-ins, but they should not exceed 1 1/2 cups total.

Our kid's favorite mix-ins are grated carrot, banana, cooked ground chicken breast, shredded peeled apples, shredded sweet potato, cooked ground lean burger, and/or mashed pumpkin.

Add your mix-ins.

Now, mix it all up.

Slowly add your water until you get a dough that's not too dry or sticky. You want to be able to handle the dough without it crumbling or sticking to your hands.

If you accidentally add too much water, you can add a little flower to balance things out and vice versa.

Roll the dough into balls slightly smaller than a golf ball.

Put them on nonstick cookie sheets.

We bake ours at 350 for 20 minutes.

Your baking time may vary.

Allow the meatballs to cool before bagging.

Keep refrigerated.

Happy baking!
