Okay, Mother Nature. We Are Prepared. Now, We Wait...

There is a massive winter storm heading our way. It's one of those unpredictable storms. They have no idea if we're going to get all heavy wet snow, sleet, freezing rain or a mix. What they do know is there will be lots of wind and the possibility of widespread power outages. And, on Sunday night through Monday night, the temperatures will dip below zero. They're predicting temperatures to be between 15 and 30 below zero due to the wind chill.

I don't normally do a lot of prep work for winter storms unless they are extreme. However, this one caught my attention for 2 reasons.

The possibility of widespread power outages.

Wind chill temps dipping 15-30 below zero.

Those are not factors to ignore.

Because I've been really sick this week, I knew prep would take a bit longer than usual so I started today.

Lisa stopped at the grocery store for a few things yesterday.

Today, I made homemade dog treats for our kids and prepped about 6 pounds of boneless chicken breasts as backup just in case we lose power.

I'm not at all concerned about the items in our freezer. With temps below zero, our freezer stuff will stay rock solid in a tote on our front porch.

I also baked cookies and quick breads.

I boiled eggs and used some of the cooked chicken to make egg and chicken salad. I made a batch of fresh berry jam.

When Lisa arrived home from work, we tackled the other stuff like housework, laundry, making sure we had enough batteries and filling our propane tank in case we needed to rely on the grill for cooking.

At this point, we're almost done with prep work.

Tomorrow, we're washing all of the throw blankets. If it's warm enough, I'm airing out the house for an hour to get all of the germs out.

The storm isn't supposed to start until the evening hours tomorrow.

We've got plenty of time to finish up.

Exhale.

The last thing we'll do is fill up our recycle bin with water for pail flushing if needed.

Then, we wait.

I don't think we're going to know what's going to happen until it actually happens.

But, that's okay.

We'll be as prepared as we can be.
