Happy 3 Year Gotcha Day To Our Sweet Sophie

Today we're celebrating Sophie's 3 Year Gotcha Day. I can't believe it's been 3 years since she joined our family. Time goes by so fast. Too fast. I remember the day we took her home as if it was yesterday. At the time, we only had Coco. We had no plans on expanding our family. It. Just. Happened.

On this day, 3 years ago, we delivered biscuit love and other much needed supplies to one of our favorite locations...the Bethlehem animal shelter. The ACO, Judy, is an incredible woman and we absolutely adore her. Unfortunately, Bethlehem is almost a 2 hour drive from our home. We don't get to visit as often as we'd like.

Towards the end of our visit that day, Judy brought Sophie into the office. This was the second time we had met Sophie. She hid under the desk. After a few minutes, we were able to lure her out with a biscuit.

Lisa picked her up. Sophie melted in her arms. They both gave me "the look." Sophie's look was, "Take me home." Lisa's look was, "Can we? Please." Then, Judy spoke up and said we should take her home. If it didn't work out, she could pick Sophie up at an event we were attending to following weekend that was 30 minutes from where Judy lived.

Long story short, Sophie got her freedom ride that day. The following day, Lisa and I knew Sophie would not be going back to the shelter.

Due to the situation Sophie had been in prior to her rescue, we took her home as a foster. It wasn't until the following year, about 8 months later, that Judy showed up at another event we were participating in with the official adoption papers. I have no shame in admitting, I cried while signing our names. It was a happy day!

The rest, as they say, is history.

Happy 3 Year Gotcha Day, Sophie. We love you to the moon, back, and beyond.
