Happy 2 Year Gotcha Day To Our Sweet Sophie

Today we celebrated Sophie's 2 Year Gotcha Day. Where has the time gone! I remember her freedom ride as if it were yesterday. I remember the stream of events that led up to her freedom ride. Sophie didn't know the night before was her last night at the shelter. And we didn't know it was our last night of having only one kid.

True story.

This photo was taken in May of 2014 when we had visited one of our favorite locations to deliver Bodacious Biscuit Love. We held her, fed her lots of biscuits, and spent time with the other shelter pups. After visiting the shelter for a couple of hours, we left. The commute home was almost 2 hours one way.

Almost a month and a half later, we made the journey back to this location to deliver more biscuit love. About an hour into our visit, Lisa was holding HER. I was trying to lure another pup, who was hiding under the desk, with biscuits. At just the right moment, I looked up. SHE was looking at me. Lisa was looking at me.

"Please, honey. Can we? Just look at that face. Coco needs a sibling."

That's when it happened. That moment when the universe shifted and fate stepped in.

Two years later, today, we're celebrating Sophie's 2 Year Gotcha Day.

Sophie wanted homemade blueberry cupcakes with fresh buttercream frosting. And, she wanted to share her cupcakes with some of the humans and pups who she loves and adores.

At the last minute, Sophie said to me, "Mommy, can you make me chocolate covered strawberries too? The kind that I can eat?"

Okay. Sure. It's your Gotcha Day, baby girl. Mama will make you anything you want. It took less than an hour to whip 'em up for her.

Sophie was very pleased with her cupcakes and white chocolate covered strawberries. I'm guessing this is why she posed for a few photos wearing her DIY Pup Party Hat. She usually hates the camera and gives me THE LOOK when I attempt to snap a few photos.

After a few photos, Sophie decided that was it. She was ready for a cupcake. I tried to get a photo of her sitting beside the cupcake she chose. Nope. Wasn't happening. She was ready to dig in.

For dinner, the kids enjoyed grilled cheeseburgers and sweet potato fries. I didn't get a photo of their meal. This Dog Mom was tired.

Total dork moment on my part.

The kids had a fun and festive evening. So did we. Sophie shared her cupcakes and strawberries with her Auntie Charlene, Auntie June, Auntie Kimberly, Auntie Brenda, Uncle Bob, Uncle Rob, Mama Mabel, cousin Ryan, cousin Alex, Miss Ellie, Miss Beckett, Dusty, Lucy and Cheyanne.

Happy 2 Year Gotcha Day, baby girl! We love you so much!
