How Does Something Like This Even Happen?

This is a random photo of black licorice. It has nothing to do with this blog column. But. I never publish a blog column without a photo. So. Why the randomness? 

Late last year, an old neighbor friend who called us family, blocked me on Facebook. This was after 7 years of a close friendship with her and the hubs. 

We knew this day was coming. It was just a matter of when. 

I have gone back and forth trying to decide whether to share the entire story. Or not. I have chosen not to. For now. It's not worth my time or effort. Maybe someday, I will. 

What I will share now is this...

Last year, our neighbor friend who called us family,  from our previous neighborhood, posted a photo. On Facebook. Of a meal. At a restaurant. That her husband took her to. It looked delicious. Her post highlighted that her husband, who we happen to adore, very seldom takes her out. Blah. Blah. Blah. 

It rubbed me the wrong way because her husband is a good man. He would give the shirt off his back any day of the week. He helped us out a lot over the years. 

So. 

I replied to her post.

Prior to publishing my response on her wall, I read it to Lisa first. I tend to do this because I don't sugarcoat anything. I wanted to make sure it was not too harsh for those who are sensitive. Lisa gave me the green light.

My exact words...

Looks delicious! On a side note. Keep in mind, it has been almost 2 years since Covid. It has been almost 2 years since we have eaten at a restaurant ourselves. With that being said, your husband is a remarkable man. And, he spoils you often. He has taken you on dozens and dozens of incredible trips whether here in the U.S.A. or overseas. You have seen the world and beyond. He may not take you out to eat often, but...count your blessings. 

Within a half hour, I was blocked. 

Blocked.

For this. 

This. 

Lisa wasn't surprised. 

I was. 

Sort of. 

And. You're probably expecting a grand finale of sorts. 

That didn't happen. 

That was that. 

It has been over 2 years since we have seen them. 

Over a year since this happened. 

Just like that. 

How does this even happen?
