This was the scene in the wee hours of the morning while the remnants of Ida pounded us. I sent Lisa to bed shortly after she got home from work. I stayed up. On the sofa.
After Lisa went to bed, Sophie curled up behind my knees. Shaking from the cracks and rumbles of thunder and the rain pelting the windows. I rubbed her sweet lil' head.
We caught up on Grace and Frankie episodes. She eventually fell asleep. I dozed off shortly before 6 a.m. Then. Wakened by the NWS alarm on my phone around 7:30.
It was a scary overnight.
For us and so many others who received record amounts of rain.
It's kind of been a weird Summer in terms of weather.
Last year, at this time, we were in an extreme drought.
Now, most areas around us are flooded and there is so much damage.
That is nothing in comparison to what areas in New York and New Jersey and Pennsylvania got hammered with.
So.
In the wee hours of the morning. While I sat on the sofa with Sophie. With her curled up behind my knees. And, Lisa in the bedroom with our other 3 kids. Sleeping sound.
I was beyond grateful.
For our home. Our safety. The weather alerts.
It didn't matter how exhausted I was.
It didn't matter how exhausted Lisa was.
She didn't sleep well too because our other 3 kids were on edge.
We got through it.
Together.
As a family...
We. Are. Okay.
