Our Home Is Filled With Timeless Treasures And Stories

If you have ever visited our home, you know that it's filled with family heirlooms, antiques, unique vintage pieces, handcrafted items that we've made or have been gifted to us, handcrafted primitive decor that we've purchased at yard sales or on the marketplace, and other items that fit in. Almost everything in our home has a story behind it.

Our home doesn't look like a showroom from a furniture or department store. Very few pieces are store-bought. When people visit our home, they often marvel at the pieces and ask about the stories attached to the pieces.

A couple of weekends ago, Lisa's parents traveled to Connecticut to visit us. They brought lots of boxes filled with treasures. Most of the items were items from Lisa's grandparents and great-grandparents.

One of the items was a knitted clothespin bag that her grandmother made with the original clothespins from many, many decades ago. This is one item that Lisa's parents showed us while they were here. I took it and hung it on our dining room pantry door.

We had a wonderful visit with them. Lots of catching up. A few drinks. A fabulous lunch. The time with them went by much too quickly.

Toward the end of their visit, I made the announcement that the clothespin bag was going to stay there. On our pantry door. In our dining room. It was meant to be there.

Later that afternoon, Lisa and I opened the boxes. We were in awe of all the treasures. So many of them. Lisa remembered some, but not most because they were from the '40s and '50s. A few pieces even earlier.

There was so much...

So. Much. History.

After going through all of the boxes, we made a decision.

For the longest time, we had no idea how to decorate our second living room. It's the last room we need to paint. It's furnished, minus a sofa.

On the far end of the second living room, there is a section of the wall that could classify as a tiny nook. Lisa wants to build distressed wall shelves for that area to display all of the antiques and heirlooms. The 3 chairs in that room are antique. We'd like to find an antique sofa.

We are super excited to finally have a direction. Our second living room will be like stepping back into time.

It will take a while, but we'll get it done bit by bit.

Some pieces will go in our kitchen and main living room.

We are so grateful to have been handed down these pieces of timeless treasures.

They will be displayed proudly.
