Happy. Birthday. To. Me.

Lisa had to work today. On my birthday. It was just the kids and myself until about 5 p.m. when Lisa arrived home from work. I kept busy. Cooking. Baking. Housework. Putting together gifts for our Spreading Holiday Love And Cheer Party tomorrow. I put a strand of lights on the 3 foot Christmas tree in the kitchen to hand the 'Love' ornaments I made a couple of weeks ago.

By mid-afternoon, everything was done. I poured another glass of wine and sat at my desk only to be greeted by more cancellations for tomorrow's party. We're less than 24 hours away from getting blasted by Winter Storm Ali. Yes, they've named the storm because it's a significant storm that'll dump between 4-8 inches.

Sigh...

At this point, I'm confident that no one will be traveling tomorrow. I don't blame them. I wouldn't. It's our first winter storm of the season. The roads will suck within a relatively short period of time.

However, that didn't stop me from preparing a feast. In addition to a spread of side dishes to go with the ham, I baked 4 different kinds of cookies. There is about 10 dozen total. I have Christmas cookie bags to fill for the guests to take home.

Obviously, with all the cancellations, we'll be left with a ton of cookies even after everyone's bags are filled. That's okay. I'll freeze them for Lisa's lunches.

The day ended on a great note. Our dear friend and her daughter came over. They brought dinner and wine. Everything was scrumptious.

Take a guess what we had for dessert?

On that note, it's time to grab a few hours of sleep. Our Spreading Holiday Love and Cheer Party is tomorrow. Festivities start at 2. We still have a few last minute things to do.

And yes, I still have a smidgen of hope that Mother Nature will blow this storm away from Connecticut.
