I Drank A Pumpkin Spice Latte And I Liked It

I'm not one to rush the seasons. You'll never hear me say, "I can't wait until the (?) season is here." Life is short. Tomorrow is never guaranteed. And, a lot can happen between point A (the here and now) and point B (whatever time frame you're wishing to fast forward to). This year is a little different. No, I'm not rushing the seasons, but it's September 1st and I've already had 2 pumpkin spice lattes, made a batch of whoopie pies, and there's a gorgeous loaf of pumpkin bread sitting on the counter.

In our Bodacious Dog Mom household, that's unheard of until the Fall season officially begins. That includes enjoying anything pumpkin spice, baking with apples or pumpkin, making whoopie pies, using Fall scented wax melts, etc.

Not this year.

I started breaking the rules over the weekend and it wasn't even September yet.

There's a reason for breaking the rules this year and it has nothing to do with COVID-19.

So, who or what is to blame?

Mother Nature.

Not only has been the hottest Summer in weather recorded history for our area, but we're also experiencing a severe drought.

Those 2 factors occurring at the same equal a rather miserable Summer.

Our foliage is drying up and turning yellow and brown. The Summer flowers have been dead for weeks. Most of the lawns are brown.

We did get a little bit of rain last week. It woke our laws up. Lisa mowed for the first time in a month and a half.

We've already postponed outdoor projects until the Fall.

The heat and humidity have been horrible. Lisa and I have spent very little time on our screened-in back porch. Who wants to sit and sweat?

Not us.

Our kids are hating it too. They go outside to do their business and immediately head back inside where it's cool.

It. Has. Sucked.

But, I'm not going to say, "I can't wait until October..."

Nope.

What I will do is continue to be defiant.

I'll suck down extra pumpkin pie lattes.

I'll fry apple cider doughnuts and bake pumpkin bread.

I'll make whoopie pies and share them with our neighbors and beyond.

I'll make crockpot suppers every night of the week.

I'll put up our new indoor Halloween decorations.

Maybe we'll decorate the outside early.

And maybe, just maybe...

I'll extend my middle finger to this year's Summer weather when it's done.

Which will probably be in December at this rate.
