DIY Treats For Treat Dispensing Dog Toys

When our sweet Remmy was with us, we purchased a Kong Wobbler Toy. He loved it. After he passed away, we kept the toy. A little over 2 years ago, we donated the toy to a special pup named Amos who was residing at one of our local animal shelters. The day before visiting Amos, I made several bags of tiny peanut butter dog treats. They were the perfect size for the Kong Wobbler Toy.

There are quite a few dog toys out there that are designed to harbor and dispense treats. Some companies even offer pre-made treats specifically designed for these treat dispensing dog toys. Or, what most people do, is find a store-bought treat that will fit. Either way, it can get a little expensive and if you run out of the treats, it requires a trip to the store.

Simple solution? Make your own.

For these treats, I used our Bodacious Peanut Butter Dog Treat Recipe. It's inexpensive and you probably already have the ingredients on hand. What's great about this recipe is it freezes well. You can pop 'em in the freezer and take out a few as needed or use frozen during the summer months.

I rolled the dough to the same thickness as pie crust and used the smallest cookie cutter I have. For larger toys, or ones requiring a sturdier treat, roll thicker. Once cooled, you can use as is for a softer treat. Or, let them sit for 24 to 48 hours to harden.

Sure, making treats for treat dispensing dog toys and games takes a little time. However, you'll save money and you control the ingredients. Most of the homemade dog treat recipes I created can be used.

Have fun, get creative, experiment and enjoy!
