Lisa Was Beyond Excited About Her Surprise Gift Today

I'm not going to lie. Since publishing the blog column about Lisa's dying grill over a week ago, it has weighed heavy on me. Lisa loves to grill year round. Our family loves grilled food. When I wrote that blog column, only 1/2 of Lisa's grill worked...if that. After 5 years of wear and tear, Lisa was unsure if we'd be able to get one more grilled meal out of it.

I've been keeping my eyes peeled for the "end of season" sales. Purchasing a grill wasn't in our budget. Usually, for big-ticket items, we save up. But sometimes, there are exceptions.

Earlier this morning, I was sitting at the table working on blog columns between waiting for satin varnish to dry on a couple of custom DIY Dog Mom Projects. The kids were napping. It was quiet. Out of nowhere, this gigantic thought burst into my head.

Shop. Now.

I checked out a few retail locations. There were a few sales that caught my attention. However, most of the grills were too small, much too large, or charcoal style grills.

At the last retail location, I spotted a rather spectacular deal. The grill was a bit larger than the one we have. The grates were more durable. It was an upgrade. And, it had a side burner.

The grill was available for free store pick up. There was only a few left in stock.

I didn't hesitate.

I'm not going to lie. I did a happy dance in the middle of the kitchen. The kids barked and wagged their tails. They were excited too.

I sent Lisa a photo of the order number and told her she had a gift waiting at Lowe's to pick up after work.

She was stumped.

"What is it? I know it's not a grill because you said there are no good sales. Is it the tool I've been wanting? A holiday inflatable?"

"I'm not telling. You have a photo of the order number. Go pick it up after work."

That. Was. All.

Lisa called when she got out of work and was on the way to pick up her gift. I could tell she was excited. She honestly had no idea.

Meanwhile, I was bursting at the seams.

About a half hour later, I got the call.

Lisa was beyond excited.

She later admitted that she honestly thought I had bought the power tool she wanted, but she had secretly hoped it was a grill.

"I would have loved and been more than grateful had it been the power tool I wanted. But, when they rolled out the grill, I had the biggest smile on my face. My mouth fell to the floor. You totally surprised me. And, what a killer deal. I can't wait to put it together and be able to grill again."

Total. Work. At. Home. Dog. Mom. Pride.

Lisa will be putting the grill together tomorrow night and Saturday.

I'll post a photo soon!
