We Are Hunkering Down During This Lengthy Heatwave

We are in the middle of a rather miserable heatwave. Hazy. Hot. Humid. Close to 100. The heat index well over 100. The air is soupy. This afternoon, I sat on the front porch for less than 5 minutes. I could feel the beads of sweat forming on my face and rolling down my back. At that point, I gave up trying to take photos of the birds. It's just too damn hot.

For the record, I'm not complaining. It's Summer. We're bound to have heatwaves.

Our kids are feeling it too. When it's this hot, we greatly limit their time outside. They don't mind. They're not huge fans of the heat either. Sophie and Willa love to bask in the sun, but when it's this hot, forget it. All of the kids do "their business" and then run to the gate. They want to be back inside where it's nice and cool.

I took this photo during the early afternoon hours. Typically, Sophie and Coco take their afternoon naps on our bed. Today, they crashed on the sofa not too far from one of the A/C's. They stretched out. Coco's back legs were draped across Sophie.

This photo completely represents how we're all feeling about this horrible heatwave.

Lisa and I had made a few plans this week and weekend. During the day. For a few hours. We wanted to visit some yard sales and flea markets and Farmers Markets. However, we postponed our plans.

We don't leave the A/C's running when we're not home. We're never away from home for more than a few hours. But, with the heat index reaching 110, our home would heat up like an oven relatively quick without the A/C's on.

Speaking of ovens, I made sure to bake a ton of treats for our kids before this lengthy heatwave hit. And, none of our meals will involve turning the oven on.

So, we're staying home.

Our plans can wait until the heatwave is over with.
