A Cheese Wrapper Does Nothing. The Aroma Of Doggy Biscuits Baking In The Oven Gets Their Attention
There's a funny meme I see floating around on Facebook every once in a while. It's been deemed "the cheese wrapper meme." It has 4 photos of the same pup. In 3 of the photos, the pup is sleeping. Each of those photos is accompanied by the words "doorbell," "mailman," and "burglary." In the last photo, the pup is wide awake and alert. That photo is titled, "cheese wrapper." The point of the meme is to highlight the humor that some pups will sleep through anything, but when they hear that damn cheese wrapper...game on!
In our home, the sound of the deli cheese bag does nothing. However, the aroma of freshly baked dog biscuits gets their attention. It doesn't matter what our kids are doing, they know when Mama is making biscuits.
Today, I whipped up a batch of my homemade soft-baked peanut butter dog treats. All of the kids were napping. I took the ingredients out. Made a double batch of dough in the KitchenAid Mixer. Rolled. Cut. Filled 3 cookie trays. Put the first tray in the oven.
Within 5 minutes, all of the kids were awake. Lobo and Willa were on the kitchen doggy bed. Sophie was at my feet. Coco was in the living room searching for a chew bone in one of the doggy toy boxes.
They knew.
On days when I bake homemade dog treats, the kids know they get an extra special snack that day...warm, fresh out of the oven treats.
Of course, I let the treats cool down a bit after taking them out of the oven.
It's their favorite way to eat them.
I guess the human version of this is having a warm chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven. Or a slice of pumpkin bread, when it's still warm and the butter melts.
The similarities between humans and pups in this area aren't too far apart.
