8 Reasons Why The Month Of September Is Crazy For Us Dog Moms Too

There's about a half dozen blogs I have kept up with over the years. A few of them are Mommy bloggers. I appreciate their candid posts and uncensored tongues. That trumps their clique-y attitude and followers. They tend to have a narrow view of what the term Mom means. In other word, their attitude reflects the belief that you can only be a Mom if you have human kids. For that reason I don't participate in discussions and admire their posts from a distance.

The theme, all across the boards, has been how crazy the month of September is. The kids go back to school. It's an expensive and stressful month. School supplies. School clothes. Bus schedules. Busy evenings. Homework. Adapting to new routines. The holidays approaching in a couple of months. The list goes on.

As I read post after post of stressed out, sleep deprived Mommy bloggers, I think, "The same stress, lack of sleep, crazy, hectic, and non-stop stuff is going on here too."

Granted, we don't have to deal with school supply lists and poorly-thought-out bus schedules. We're on totally opposite sides of the spectrum. However, September has been a whirlwind of non-stop hustle and bustle.

1. Allergies and Fleas. All of our kids have seasonal allergies. Spring isn't too bad. Fall allergies, however, are a whole other story. And, this time of year, when the weather gets cold, fleas are looking for a warm host. Although we administer Revolution to all of our kids every 30 days, and have never had issues with fleas, ticks or parasites, that doesn't stop the occasional flea bite while they're outside. Coco is allergic to flea saliva. One bite sends him over the edge and he will bite and scratch that one area. We have to monitor him 24/7 through the duration. Thankfully, we have ointment, spray, and Benadryl.

2. The holidays are right around the corner. It's a busy time of year for us on the Bodacious Biscuit Love end of things. On top of that, we're making a few changes which includes offering biscuit love, pet food, and pet supplies to needy families in our community. We'll have a remote location (our home) and we are going to set aside a few hours per week to make deliveries to those who don't have a means of transportation. And, we'll be making holiday pet baskets for needy families as well. We don't have all the details etched in granite yet, but we're in the process of making a Bodacious Biscuit Love Bin for our porch and we'd like to have everything launched by our 3 year biscuit love anniversary on October 15th.

3. New additions. This year, we're offering handcrafted, personalized bone shaped ornaments. The money raised from these will help us to fund the purchase of pet food and supplies to fill our Bodacious Biscuit Love Bin. In order for this to be a success, I need to take orders, make, and ship these ornaments by the beginning of November. Once that's done, we can focus on holiday pet baskets and holiday biscuit love.

4. A few blankets, maybe? I'm in the process of shopping around for a new sewing machine. The 2 sewing machines that were donated to us didn't work. I've got a ton of fabric and would like to make some Bodacious Patchwork Blankets to sell over the holiday season and have available for the Whiskers in Wonderland event that we'll be participating in on December 4th. It'll be our 3rd year participating in this event and we love it!

5. Birthdays and an Anniversary. A few of our close friends are celebrating Birthdays and an Anniversary all within a week. Today, Lisa and I decided to have a small party, just the 6 of us, next Saturday. We're going to fire up the grill, make some drinks, and celebrate life and love. The meal will end with my homemade caramel apple cupcakes.

6. Winterizing our home. Even though our windows are fairly new, we plastic the windows to prevent drafts. We also take down our Spring/Summer curtains and put up our thermal insulated Fall/Winter drapes. I need to make tiebacks for the office and living room.

7. Fall cleaning. In this household, we don't just do Spring cleaning. We do Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall cleaning. Every 3 months we steam clean the carpets and thoroughly clean each room from top to bottom. It takes an entire weekend.

8. Decorating the outside. During the Spring and Summer months, our porch is decorated with flowers and our Porch of Produce. Those were all cleared out two weekends ago. Between the first official day of Fall and October 1st, we go all out and decorate for Halloween. This includes Mums, pumpkins, cornstalks, lights, inflatables, etc. The first weekend after October 31st, we take all of that down and start decorating for Christmas.

That's not all.

I won't bore you with the rest.

September is super busy and crazy for us Dog Moms too.
