Mother Nature Had Other Plans

It takes a lot for me to plan an evening of unwind time whether it's having our neighbor friends over or going to their house across the street. The operative words are across the street. We're close to home. We check in frequently. We can keep an eye on our home. This was our plan earlier today. Dip and sip with our neighbor friend. Fire up the grill. Enjoy dinner together. Outdoors. Picnic table.

A portion of our planning revolves around the weather...especially during the summer months. I kept a close eye on the weather and radar. Storms were not in the forecast today. We were good to go.

Mother Nature had other plans.

A half hour after Lisa arrived home from work, the sky looked angry. I checked the weather radar. Pop up storms were forming.

What. The. Hell.

We were ready to jump in the pool. I made a pitcher of drinks. The kids had a delicious snack of homemade biscuits and applesauce. They were ready for their afternoon nap.

Boom. Thunder.

Our neighbor friend was sitting in her yard waiting for us. Lisa ran over and told her to come over. Pool time would have to wait until the storm passed.

The storm passed. Then, there was another.

We sat in our kitchen, sipping adult beverages, and munching on chips, blueberries and strawberries. We exchanged stories. Good conversation. Plenty of laughs.

At one point I went on the front porch to check out the status of the storm. Streak lightening lit up the sky. Okay. Not yet.

An hour later, the sun came out.

The kids had gotten more snacks and snuggles.

We jumped in the pool.

For dinner, we fired up the grill and enjoyed burgers, pasta salad, fruit salad, salsa and chips.

Later, we took a drive down the street to a hole-in-the-wall ice cream stand.

By 9 p.m. we were happy, full, and content.

Memories made.

Life is good.
