A Year Ago Today...

A year ago today Lobo underwent surgery to remove his hind leg. It was infested with gangrene. Most of the flesh was gone. He was on death's door. The day prior, he was rescued from his nightmare. They weren't sure if he was going to make it through surgery. There were a lot of unknowns. What we did know was that he'd be recovering at our home as a foster.

I remember like it was yesterday. We were sitting on the edge of our seats. It was an emotional day for us and those involved. The Animal Control Officer kept us updated with text messages and photos. Tears. Lots of tears. There was a couple of close calls during surgery. Would his tiny body be strong enough to endure major surgery?

He's a fighter. Lobo pulled through. Although not out of the woods yet, his chances of a full recovery became more eminent. More texts. More photos. Some were difficult to look at.

I tried to keep myself busy. Housework. Top to bottom. I baked. Paced.

Lobo was due to arrive at our home the following morning if there were no complications and he was given the green light from his doctor.

I have no shame in admitting I was a little nervous.

As the day rolled on, confidence grew. Lobo woke up from anesthesia. Although groggy, he was a little spitfire. Lobo ate. Drank. The following morning, he was given the green light.

Tomorrow, we celebrate. It's been a year already!
