I Got A Little Brave Last Night And Made Something New

I have a confession to make. For the first time in my entire life, I made homemade English muffins. That's kind of a big deal for me. Although I've been baking for over 40 years, I've only been making bread for a little over 10 years. I love homemade English muffins, but making them has always intimidated me.

The other day, I got brave because we have both been craving homemade English muffins.

We used to buy homemade English muffins from our favorite breakfast place, but we haven't been there since the weekend before we closed on our house in February of 2020. At the time, we made a promise that we'd enjoy breakfast there every other weekend from that point on. We kept that promise for one more visit, but thanks to COVID-19, that breakfast was over a year ago.

Over the past year, when we craved good quality English muffins and ones that were the closest to homemade, we bought them from the Vermont Bread Company.

Lisa suggested a few times that I should make homemade English muffins.

I wanted to.

But.

For some unexplained reason, the process of making them intimidated me.

Until the other day.

I did it.

Much to my surprise, they were super easy to make.

The process takes a little longer than making other traditional bread products like sandwich rolls, pizza crust, or artisan loaves, but it's not complicated.

Lisa was at work when I made them. I didn't tell her that I was trying my hand at making them. When she arrived home from work, I had 6 beautiful English muffins on the cooling rack.

I wish I could have snapped a photo of her face when she saw them.

The following morning, I grilled a couple and topped them with butter and raw honey.

Holy deliciousness!

Lisa told me they were better than the ones we bought at our favorite breakfast place.

All of our kids enjoyed a taste or two.

Our days of buying English muffins are officially over.
