This was our Christmas tree in 2012. It was 5 months after we moved into our rental home in Plainfield, Connecticut. A 2 family home. It was 4 months after adopted Coco. This Christmas tree was a 2 1/2 foot fresh tree. It was the last year that we bought a fresh Christmas tree because of the number of needles that dropped to the floor. Not safe for furry kids.
The following year, we bought an artificial 3-foot Christmas tree. At the time, that was plenty big enough for a while. Each year, in addition to the ornaments we already had, I made personalized ornaments for Lisa and me and our kids.
Each year, the number of ornaments we had to hang increased.
So...
In 2017, Lisa purchased a 4 foot Christmas tree. I took this photo back in 2018. As you can see, it was loaded with ornaments even back then.
When we decorated the tree in 2018, Lisa said we needed a larger one.
Last year, we still had and used this same tree. I made our annual ornaments to hang. After hanging all of the personalized ornaments and our most special ornaments, we had to leave a few behind because of the weight.
However, last year was much different. Neither one of us mentioned getting a larger tree. Not one of us mentioned that it would be our last Christmas in our home that we rented since 2012.
In February, we bought a house.
We have celebrated a lot of "firsts" here.
This includes the upcoming Christmas season.
For the past month, the topic of our Christmas tree came up in conversation between Lisa and myself. We needed a larger tree.
While Lisa and I love the ambiance of a fresh Christmas tree, we can't have one because of our kids. The needles would be an issue especially for Willa who loves to eat things off the floor.
Safety first.
Lisa has been working hard and due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases, we decided to go back to restricting errands to bare essential.
Lisa briefly mentioned our existing Christmas tree last week during a conversation.
Yesterday, I checked out a few online retailers who were offering early Black Friday deals.
I stumbled on this beauty...
A super great deal.
Lots of lights.
An upgrade to 6 1/2 feet.
It will be a Christmas tree that stands from the floor instead of a surface.
New house.
New home.
New Christmas tree.
I wanted to surprise Lisa with our new Christmas tree, but I suck at keeping secrets.
She knows about it because I told her.
And, she's just as excited as I am.
I am almost willing to bet that we will have our Christmas tree decorated before Thanksgiving...
I look forward to reading about your first Christmas in your new home!
ReplyDeleteWe are very excited! The new Christmas tree we bought was delivered and it's the perfect size. Right now, we're planning out how we're going to do the outdoor decorations. We have a lot of them.
