Changes Because The COVID-19 Pandemic Effects Our Kids Too

The past few weeks have been really scary with the COVID-19 pandemic hanging over our heads like a black cloud that won't go away. It has affected everyone's life. Non-essential businesses are closed. Countless people are out of work. Grocery store shelves are bare. People have been quarantined and social distancing for weeks. The list goes on and on and on.

One of the newer restrictions that we've had to encounter is the restrictions for the veterinary clinic we take our kids to for nail trims, wellness checks, vaccinations, etc.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, we could make an appointment. Show up. Take our kids in. Go into the examination room with them.

Now, that's not happening.

Lisa had to take a couple of our kids in today for wellness checks, vaccinations, and nail trims.

The criteria are...

When you're in the parking lot, call to let them know you're there.

Wait.

When it is your turn, a staff member will walk to your vehicle, take your kids, bring them inside, perform whatever service you're scheduled for, and return the kids to your vehicle.

We adore the staff at the veterinary clinic we take our kids to.

They treat our kids as if they were their own.

But.

Our kids are not used to this procedure.

It's new to them.

They've never been removed from our vehicle by someone else aside from us and carried into a building.

They've never been in an exam room without us.

They don't understand what's going on and this is the way it has to be until the COVID-19 pandemic is done and over with.

There was no way to explain it to them.

And, it broke our hearts.

I'm not ashamed to admit that after Lisa left, I cried.

I hated that they had to go through that.

The entire COVID-19 pandemic has been stressful and unnerving for Lisa and I.

That really hit home today when we had to adhere to the temporary procedures for our veterinary clinic, especially for Lisa who had to hand over our kids and watch them being taken inside by someone else.

On a positive note...

Our kids are healthy.

Back home.

Vaccinated.

Nails trimmed.

Exhale.
