Show Up. Be Present. Busy Is Not An Excuse.

Earlier in the week, a couple of our neighbor friends who have become family, invited us over this morning for a homemade waffle brunch. My first instinct was to say no. Sundays are a very busy day for me. But. Before I declined, I reminded myself that I needed to stop using busy as an excuse. We accepted the invite.

We got up early this morning. Went about our normal weekend routine with the kids. After breakfast, I tackled some desk work stuff.

What I really wanted to do was dive into the other stuff like baking and meal prep for the first half of the week for Lisa's breakfasts and lunches.

I wasn't able to do that because brunch was at 11 a.m.

I groaned a bit.

Maybe got a little frustrated.

However, I kept reminding myself of several things...

Busy is not an excuse.

Someone was kind enough to spend their time making a delicious brunch.

People wanted to spend time with us.

In addition, it had been a while since I visited them.

Lisa ran errands while I worked before we headed over for brunch.

She picked up a couple of gorgeous flowering annual plants.

Before heading over, we grabbed coffee for everyone.

Then, we ate the most delicious Belgium waffles with homemade strawberry sauce, blueberry sauce, and fresh made whipped cream.

We talked and laughed for almost 2 hours.

My soul needed this.

By the time we got home and settled back in, it was almost 2 p.m.

That was okay.

Lisa rested on the sofa with all of the kids while I got more work stuff done, baked, got some meal prep done, and put the final touches on our dinner.

Throughout all of that, I kept giving thanks to the fact that I didn't back out of attending brunch.

Life is short.

If someone is going to take the time to make delicious food and request our presence, or simply make plans to meet up for conversation, I'm going to make the time to be present.

Over the years, our tribe has gotten smaller and smaller.

Those who are in our tribe now...we consider family.

Show up.

Be present.

Busy is not an excuse.
