One Of My DIY Dog Mom Project Paintbrushes Has Retired

Many, many years ago, when I started painting both artistically and assisting with painting the cupboards and walls in the 2 apartments my parents owned and rented, I received some sound advice from my Dad. He told me to always invest in good paintbrushes no matter what you're painting. He led by example. The paintbrushes he had were high quality, soft, and some of the best I've ever used.

Along with investing in good quality paintbrushes was maintaining their endurance and quality. My Dad always took the time to clean the paintbrushes properly, dry them, and store them neatly until the next use.

I haven't always been in the position to invest in high-quality paintbrushes. When I've had to opt for cheap paintbrushes, I can tell the difference. The bristles are coarse and flimsy. They leave brush marks. And, the paint application leaves something to be desired.

Now that I'm older, I invest in good quality brushes. Over the past few years, my DIY Dog Mom Project paintbrushes have grown. I take care of them. Despite frequent use, they last quite a long time.

However, wear and tear eventually sets in. This was the case yesterday with my favorite DIY Dog Mom Project paintbrush. We paid a pretty penny for this brush a few years ago at Michael's

For the past 2 months, I've used it a few dozen times to conquer the paint renovations both upstairs and for Our Big Bodacious Painting Project.

This brush has given the sharpest of paint lines without the use of painter's tape. It's the perfect size for edging and painting the sides of trim. I've used it to paint the short baseboards both upstairs and down here.

My DIY Dog Mom Project paintbrush has been a lifesaver.

But now, it's ready to retire. I don't have the heart to throw it away. Instead, I'm going to use an antique mason jar to store my retired paintbrushes.

And yes...when you're an artist, the demise of a paintbrush is kind of a big deal...

Now, I'll rely on my second favorite DIY Dog Mom Project paintbrush. It's fairly new. I use it to paint a lot of the bigger DIY Dog Mom Projects. I've tested it out on a few areas and it does not disappoint.

I'm thinking I'll have to do a little shopping at Michael's when Our Big Bodacious Painting Project is done. Which is fine. Michael's has a lot of decent coupons and I love shopping for paintbrushes.
