Here Is The Recipe For Our Homemade Cheesy Sweet Potato Dog Treats

A while ago, we posted a request on our Bodacious Biscuit Love Facebook page. What kind of homemade dog treats did you want us to create? We wanted you to inspire us. Some people replied to the original post while others sent private messages and emails. The replies were all over the chart, but one thing stood out. There were quite a few requests for savory biscuits. That became my latest inspiration.

I scanned the entire kitchen for ingredients I could use to create a savory, homemade dog treat. I grabbed a sweet potato, some cheese, eggs, and a few other ingredients that I knew were pup friendly.

It took about 2 hours to get this recipe just right. I mixed, rolled, cut, and baked. The aroma that filled our home during bake time was out of this world. It almost smelled like pizza crust. I was at my desk salivating.

In a mixer or bowl, you want to add the following...

2 cups flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk (you can use water)
1/2 cup shredded cheese (I used mild cheddar and Monterey Jack)
3/4 cup shredded sweet potato
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon oregano
2 teaspoons baking powder

Mix all ingredients together. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour. If the dough is tight (dry), add more milk or water.

Ball up your dough for rolling. Make sure you flour the counter really well and sprinkle some flour on top of your dough when rolling.

Roll the dough a little thicker than you would a pie crust. You can roll a little thicker for a soft baked treat. Once rolled, use any cookie cutter you want. This dough can be rolled and cut as many times as needed.

I baked these at 350 for about 23-24 minutes. Your bake time will vary depending on your oven. When these biscuits are done, they'll be a nice golden brown on the bottom and have a stiff pizza crust feel to them.

I made ours a little thicker because I wanted soft baked. I did keep a couple out to see if they'd harden for a crunchy treat. After 36 hours, they did.

Our fur-kids LOVED these biscuits...even Coco who is our pickiest eater. I wasn't sure if he'd try 'em because of the oregano, but he did. We loved these biscuits too. They taste like a seasoned pizza crust and the texture is nice and soft.

Enjoy and happy baking!
