Random Rant: We Need The Rain. Stop Complaining.

For the past week, we've had lots of rain and chilly temperatures. Everyone is complaining about both. I've seen dozens of Facebook posts from people ranting about Summer temperatures being this cold and having to turn their heat on at night. Where's the sun? Where's the beach weather? Why is it this cold? Isn't it ridiculous that the wood stove needs to be fired up during the Summer?

On and on and on they gripe.

I'll be the first to admit, the rainy weather has gotten to our kids. They're restless. They want to play outside and bask in the sun. Trips outside have been cut short because of the torrential downpours.

However, aside from our kids not favoring this bout of cold and rainy weather, I have no complaints and, to take it a step further, I'm getting sick and tired of people bitchin' about it.

For starters, it's not Summer. I know a lot of you think the Summer season starts on Memorial Day weekend, but that's not the case. The official start of the Summer season begins on Wednesday, June 21st at 12:24 a.m.

In our neck of the woods, the past couple of summers have been dry. Too dry. Lawns dried out and the grass died by the end of July. A lot of people who had gardens were disappointed. Wells are running low. A lot of towns, last Summer, had water restrictions.

We need the rain. We're in a drought.

For those who live in Connecticut, like us, in case you haven't noticed, there's a massive infestation of Gypsy Moth Caterpillars. It started last year. Although it wasn't too noticeable in our neighborhood, some areas surrounding us were hit hard. Trees were completely stripped of foliage. Then, we had to deal with the Gypsy moths. Going outside during the day sucked. Outdoor events were cancelled because of it.

This year, the infestation is worse. Much worse. Gypsy Moth Caterpillars are invading our neighborhood and defoliating trees very quickly. By the end of this month, a lot of our trees will be bare.

We need the fungus to kill off the caterpillars that are defoliating our trees. In order for that to happen, we need rain. Lots of it.

For those who are craving the sultry hazy, hot, and humid beach weather, that is just around the corner. They're predicting a heatwave that'll begin this coming weekend.

If all pans out as predicted, and we get 3 consecutive days of 90 degree plus weather, it'll be our 2nd heatwave this Spring. Yes, that's right. Before Summer even begins, we'll have 2 heatwaves under our belts already.

You'll be able to exchange the fleece lounge pants and slippers for bathing suits and flip flops.

Until then, suck it up buttercup.

We need this rain.

Stop complaining.
