Have I Mentioned How Much I Hate Ticks?

After 4 days of fatigue, flu like symptoms, and a headache, I put my foot down and demanded she make an emergency appointment with her doctor. On September 1st, Lisa was put on a regimen of medications to treat Lyme. During her long Labor Day weekend, I cancelled plans and, again, put my foot down. Rest. Lots of it. Although she felt a little better yesterday, she still had the headache. She went to her follow up appointment yesterday after work. The tests came back positive for Lyme Disease.

Her doctor examined the spot on her head that was still tender and painful to the touch. It was determined that's where she was bitten. To make matters worse, it was very close to or on a nerve in her head. The swelling was causing the headaches. Lisa's doctor extended her Doxy prescription and put her on a heavy dose of steroids to alleviate the swelling.

Right now, the concern is the nerve swelling and pressure. If the medications don't work, there could be long term issues like neuropathy.

We're keeping our fingers and paws crossed the medications work their magic.

This weekend, our plans are to stay put. We have a couple of errands to run, but that's it.

Yesterday I made one of Lisa's favorite dinners to cheer her up.

Homemade clam chowda.

She's starting the course of strong steroids today.

We're taking it day by day.

That's all we can do.

Have I mentioned how much I hate ticks?

I'm still in awe that one tiny, tiny bug can cause so much damage.

I'll keep you posted...
