Magic Happened In Our Bodacious Kitchen Yesterday

Lisa does not like to cook or bake. I do. Both have been my passion for many decades. This is one of the many ways that we balance each other. And. One of the reasons why kitchen time is part of my Work at Home Dog Mom schedule.

Lisa took Wednesday off. Due to her schedule, we don't eat dinner together during the week. So, this was a rare treat. I promised to make one of her favorite meals. My fresh fried chicken tenders and homemade baked olive oil herb fries.

On Tuesday night, I wanted to surprise her with a batch of my homemade caramel brownies when she arrived home from work.

Long story short, I had a bit of an accident in the kitchen that resulted in severe burns on 2 of my fingers.

This happened less than a half-hour before Lisa arrived home from work.

Painful.

Very. Painful.

I was in tears when Lisa got home.

I had 2 ice cubes. Each wrapped in a paper towel. Pressed up against both of my burned fingers. Lisa wanted to take me to the emergency room, but I declined.

The following day, Wednesday afternoon, Lisa said, "We can do takeout tonight or I can make dinner." Neither one of us wanted takeout. We're not fans of takeout. But. Lisa had never made chicken tenders or baked fries.

After expressing this, Lisa said, "Talk me through it. I'll do it."

And, she did.

I was the human version of a cookbook.

Lisa said I got a bit stern on occasion.

Big. Huge. Laughing. Out. Loud. Moments.

Lots of banter was exchanged.

A few hands-on-my-hips "girly" moments on my end.

However.

Lisa nailed it.

Dinner was incredible.

Aside from being completely impressed with how dinner turned out, I was beyond grateful for that moment.

Making homemade chicken tenders and baked fries is a pain in the ass. I make them at least once a month because I know how much Lisa enjoys this meal.

Sure, it would have been easier for Lisa to throw her hands up and order takeout.

But.

She didn't.

And.

That speaks worlds in itself.
