A Jar Of Yeast Was On The Grocery List...

As most of you know, I'm an avid cook and baker. My passion in the kitchen began over 30 years ago. It's in my blood. As I've gotten older, and with the help of the generations before me, I've learned how to make lots of scrumptious items that I used to purchase at grocery stores and bakeries to accommodate my dishes and baked goods. Some of those items include spaghetti sauce, salad dressings, marinades, gravy, pie crust, croutons, pizza crust, and freshly made bread.

For a while, I was making these items. All homemade. However, my client load got a bit heavy and I was working on a stream of 6-week projects for a client. In addition, life got crazy busy with the new addition to our family last March, Lyme, Mono, a couple of big events, etc. During this time, my time was pressed. I had to rely on store-bought bread, pizza crust, and canned crushed tomatoes.

Now that I'm no longer working on these 6-week projects for my client and life has settled down, I'm back to where I was over a year ago.

More time.

When Lisa went grocery shopping yesterday, yeast was on the list. Her eyes widened.

"Are going to start making homemade bread and bagels again?"

"Yep. I sure am."

I'm fairly certain she did a little happy dance.

Today, for the first time in over a year, I made homemade bread. Two gorgeous loaves of Italian bread.

Lisa was beyond excited.

Her excitement warranted a photo.

There was 3 of us at the dinner table tonight. We each ate 2 slices. Warm. With butter. The kids got a small piece with their dinner.

The kids love my homemade bread.

The rest of the bread will be used to make Lisa's breakfast in the morning, for garlic bread, and to freeze for stuffing or croutons in the near future.

This week, I plan on making whole wheat rolls for lean turkey burgers.

Maybe some honey whole wheat bread, buns, bagels, and whole wheat croutons will follow.

Yes, things are falling into place.

I'm loving my new schedule and routine.
