We Enjoy The Extra Time With Our Fur-Nieces And Fur-Nephews

We're at the beginning of a 3 1/2 week stretch of pup and house sitting for several of our neighbor friends. It's a lot of work. For the duration, we have to adjust our schedules. We take turns spending an hour or two at the homes of our neighbor friends. It's worth it for so many reasons.

At the top of the list, we know our neighbor friends can take off on their vacations and not have to worry. We treat our fur-nephews and fur-nieces as we would our own.

Snacks. Snuggles. Belly Rubs. Juicy kisses. That will be my afternoon bliss for this entire week. We are lovin' this extra time with our fur-nephew.

For one of our neighbor friends, that includes time spent with our feline fur-nieces. We have a special bond with these lil' nuggets of love. One of 'em was part of a litter we fostered 2 years ago. She fit in the palm of my hand and had to be bottle fed.

We eventually transitioned them to a formula and food mush. Then, a few days later, soft food. Once the litter was ready to be adopted out, our neighbor friend adopted the last of the litter. Then, on the day of adoption, decided to adopt a second kitten.

I'm sitting here smiling as I reminisce about milk mouths, the milk mouth prints on my shirts, frequent bubble baths because the kittens would poop on each other, and the loud purrs.

It's been about 4 years since we've had feline kids. Trying to work at their table is a bit challenging at times. I almost forget what it's like to try and work or read or use a laptop with felines nearby.

It's nothing short of entertaining.

All in all, the past few nights wouldn't be complete if I didn't have the help of our 2 beautiful feline fur-nieces. They've faithfully kept me company as I work on blog columns at the table and read my drafts out loud.

And, because they're felines, THEY make the rules.

So far, there are only 2 rules. The first, extra treats. The second, pretend not to notice when they take turns lapping from my big glass of iced water.

Okay. Totally doable.

We are looking forward to the next few weeks.
