We're Prepared. Just In Case.

Funky things have been happening all week with our electricity. A few days ago, well after Lisa and the kids went to bed, the lights flickered. A second later, a loud BOOM! I recognized the BOOM. I ran around the house like a crazy woman trying to locate one of our many flashlights. I have a horrible habit of putting flashlights in convenient-I-won't-forget-where-they-are-locations. When I need to find one, I always forget where those locations are.

I found 2, but not the one I wanted.

Last night, Lisa and I were in the kitchen. I had just taken out ingredients to bake cookies. The lights went out. Loud BOOM.

A minute later, the lights were restored.

I was getting a little nervous. I've been through this before about 12 years ago. Flickering lights. Loud BOOMS. It lasted about a week. Then, the power went off. Loud BOOM. We were without power for almost 24 hours.

Late this afternoon, the lights went out. I was at my desk. Lisa was in the kitchen. Like with yesterday, they came back on about a minute later.

Enough was enough.

When our power goes out, it's loud. It scares our kids. The smoke alarms let off this ear piercing beep. The kids know something isn't right. Sophie hides. Lobo barks and runs from room to room. Coco paces.

We immediately stop what we're doing and comfort the kids. I can't imagine what it's like for them knot knowing what's going on.

Lisa called the power company. They had been aware of the short power outage yesterday in our area and had resolved the issue.

Ah huh. Then why is it happening again today?

And why are people who are almost a half hour away experiencing the same issue?

I wasn't taking any chances. I made sure we had water jugs filled. I filled 20 oz plastic bottles with water and put them in the fridge. We cooked extra chicken and sweet potatoes for the kids.

I found ALL of the flashlights.

We're keeping our fingers and paws crossed this is the last of it.

However, we're prepared just in case it's not.
