Something Beautiful Happened This Morning

Early this morning we had a little incident thanks to Mother Nature. I knew early morning thunderstorms were a possibility. I checked radar about a half hour before Lisa got up. There was nothing remotely close to us. Five minutes after crawling into bed, and while Lisa sat on the bed eating her breakfast with the kids surrounding her for nibbles, I saw it. Lighting. I thought my tired eyes were playing tricks on me. Nope. Seconds later, a loud clap of thunder.

I pulled up my go-to weather site on my phone and checked radar. It was congested with incoming storms.

Sophie, who is the most fearful of thunderstorms, shook ferociously. I covered her with a blanket and massaged her back. The storm got closer. She wasn't even interested in the nibbles of homemade strawberry bread Lisa offered her. She was that afraid.

Once the storm hit in full force, something remarkable happened. Coco, who was stretched out on his stomach, did the GI Jane crawl to where Sophie was and leaned up against her. Lobo followed suit and positioned himself on the other side of Sophie.

A minute or so later, and during the loudest of the thunder boomers, Sophie stopped shaking and she accepted the nibbles of strawberry bread.

Lisa and I exchanged looks of utter awe. No. Words. Needed.

Nothing like this has ever happened. Maybe it will never happen again. I don't know. What I do know is what Lisa and I witnessed was incredibly beautiful. It radiated the special bond that all 3 of our kids have with each other. It was proof of what so many people doubt.

And, it's a moment that we will never forget.
